Cell Notes on 2009 Resolutions

On Sunday we looked together at the idea from the Bible of seeking the face of God.
We saw that 'seeking' is an active word, requiring activity on the part of the seeker.
I attach my preach notes (and scripture quotations, all NIV, below)

The Key Questions this week are therefore:
1. How are we doing at seeking God's face as individuals and as a home group?
2. How do we want to seek God's face in 2009 - what will this look like??
[why not make some agreements together for the year ahead]

I would suggest that the home groups major this week on praying together as a group and seeking God for the year ahead....

MY PREACH NOTES:

What are we pushing into in 2009?

Gym!

Prayer Room - Psalm 27:8
When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, Your face, O LORD, I shall seek."
Deut. 4:25 ¶ After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time — if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God and provoking him to anger,
Deut. 4:26 I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed.
Deut. 4:27 The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the LORD will drive you.
Deut. 4:28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell.
Deut. 4:29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deut. 4:30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him.
Deut. 4:31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath.

Psa. 63:3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
Psa. 63:4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

GOD SEEKING?
John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

Rev. 3:14 “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ¶ These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.
Rev. 3:15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
Rev. 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
Rev. 3:17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
Rev. 3:18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
Rev. 3:19 ¶ Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.
Rev. 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
Rev. 3:21 ¶ To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.
Rev. 3:22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
