Cell Notes on Luke 12:22-34
Welcome Ideas: Fun Game: What would you do if you won the lottery? OR share testimonies of how God has provided for you...
Worship - maybe major on songs of thanksgiving for God's faithfulness and provision???
Word Luke 12:22 ¶ Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Luke 12:23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Luke 12:24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Luke 12:25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Luke 12:26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Luke 12:27 ¶ “Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. Luke 12:28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! Luke 12:29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. Luke 12:30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. Luke 12:31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Luke 12:32 ¶ “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. [NIV]
What hits you from this passage of scripture? What do you love/find challenging from Jesus' words? Is there anything you don't understand from these verses? How can we grow in trusting God as our provider? What wisdom does this passage provide for a balanced, faith-filled approach to money and things?
Practical response: This month we're wanting to make a practical response to Jesus' stories relating to money. Last week we looked at the idea of budgeting generosity. How is everyone getting on with managing their money? How are we doing with budgeting generosity towards God and those in need? Pray for God's help and consider how you can provide practical help to one another in this area.
Witness: Jesus the Prince of Peace wants to relieve people from the blight of anxiety! Is there anyone working/living nearby you who is anxious - how might God use you to minister to this person this week? (pray in pairs - give time to listening to the Spirit for His ideas)
